2018 F-150 Power Tailgate Problems
Hi all,
I’ve seen a few different threads with similar issues as what I’m having, but not the same combination, so I thought I’d start a new one. I have a 2018 F-150 Lariat with power tailgate. We are having a double ended problem, where the tailgate has opened spontaneously while driving (tracking the recall) AND will not open with the button on the tailgate itself, and is now giving me a hard time opening with the key fob. Anyone have the same problems? Did the recall fix correct the other issue or are they totally separate? Our local dealership said the soonest they could get the truck in is October 😒

The electric tailgate handle has been a problem for many. There seem to be more complaints as time goes on. If you can live without those features, swapping to a conventional tailgate handle may be they way to go.

Man those days at Ft Riley and Desert Shield/Storm/Calm seem like more than a lifetime ago. 4th ID, glad to you served too 
I don't know a part number, maybe Google to see if someone has done it before, or to find a parts breakdown. Tasca Ford parts should have a parts breakdown. You would need the handle with the camera and the power lock, maybe the small LED if you have that. The only thing I can't say for sure is whether the wiring harness you have will plug into a manual release handle.

Thanks, that’s helpful. Was it a pretty easy swap? Looking forward to getting this fixed. Super weird to be worried about gate NOT opening when I want it to and also opening when I don’t want it to haha

Very easy.Take off the back panel and it's right there. A couple of bolts, wires, and the connecting rods.

Swing and a miss
So, I replaced the actuator, no issues…except that the tailgate button still doesn’t work. Tailgate will open with the key fob and will open with keypad on the driver door. The tailgate button does nothing. No sounds, no tail light flashing, no “click” feeling. Back to the drawing board to solve this problem.

Tailgate will not open
I have the same problem and haven't found the solution yet. Mine will open with the key FOB and the button in the cab but not the tailgate button.
Any solutions are appreciated. Actuator is obviously good. Could it just be the switch?

i just replaced the button. Same issue. Did you ever resolve the problem?
