Lighting wire gauge

Any one know the gauge of wires between the headlight plug and switch on the driver side fender well?

Got this P.O. situation to clean up / figure out. Red wire coming from headlight/signal/marker harness and plug to this butt connector. Splits at butt to a Green-Black wire that goes into the firewall and splits again inside.

Any ideas on the split would help in addition to knowing the gauge too.

A good guess is 16 gauge. That is the minimum I would use. The factory liked to skimp on the wiring size, most likely to save money. That's why those headlight relay kits are so popular. They make the lights much brighter that using the factory wiring.

thanks! I’ve seen recommendations between 18 and 14 so I’ll go with 16awg. I’ve found trying to do it “right” is more of an opinion; Ford’s opinion was save money and cheap out like you said.
