due to a fuel leak, My 86 F15 had an engine fire. I am looking for wiring harness's to repair it. Will the wiring harness from an EFI 5.8 interchange with my EFI 5.0. ?
.
Usually no. The 1985 and 86 harnesses had some differences from the newer EFI harnesses. Could you make it work? Possibly with some wiring diagrams and head scratching.
I think I would consider this wiring kit. It would not match the original truck wiring, but would make the engine run with what you have. It's speed density which is what you have, and batch fire which is what you have. It even requires a truck computer which you already have. You would have to treat your truck like a street rod or cobra, and wire it up like that. It should work.
OK, thanks, the man I am messaging told me it was a 5.8. I know it's an 86 and saw a pic. of just the very top of the engine, it is an EFI, he must be wrong about it being a 351.Its 2 hours away, so I guess I'll just have to chance it. I like the idea of the info you sent on the new harness, but I'm 74 and on a fixed income and have to be very frugal with this project, that's the reason I'm trying to find someone scrapping an appropriate truck. Thanks very much for all the info, it makes my search much easier and is greatly appreciated.
They started the EFI in 1985 on the 302's only. Everything else had a carb, either a old school type carb or a computer controlled type carb system. The 5.8 had a computer controlled carb system, or the old school 4 barrel carb system on the 351w HO. I believe the 351w went to efi in 1988. You could try and use a later efi harness, but it would be the same as the hot rod harness, you would have to change some things around and change the computer, they used a mass air system on the later units.
