A weekend for orphan projects
Finally got the hitch mounted on the wife's 86 F-150 Lariat. Been tripping over that box in the garage for months. Decided that was enough. Had to drill all 6 holes for the frame mounting. Because I had to use the hitch assembly as the 'guide' I could not use a step bit. The kit is a 51016. It's a mix of SAE and metric, so should be right at home on the 86, lol. I used a set of bits and skipped 2 sizes from 1/4 to 1/2 - and still ended up dulling the 1/2 inch bit in the HF kit I just bought at the sidewalk sale. Drills in 64ths. Was only $10, so no great expectations there. According to the instructions, had to spread the forward points out to center them on the frame. Did that with a bottle jack and a board. Used a jack stand to hold that up long enough to get a bite. As usual, when working under a vehicle, expect at least one wrench in the face. Mine was a near miss. Looks good. 5000# hitch. Glad to have that done.
Also got the pump and air tank on the 69 F-350 dump truck. It was a weekend for orphan projects.
