Just picked up a cherry 1976 Ranger XLT. All original, but wanted to see what some new wheel options might be if I was to upgrade to some new chrome rims. Would love to see what other are running!
Or feel free to tell me I am a MORON and I should just keep original as is!
Some of it depends on the look you're after. vintage correct ? street rod? P or LT tires ?
My preference is either stock or vintage correct. slot mags look great on a 2wd. white or chrome mojocks were always popular. if you want a sporty look Cragar SS's would make it really pop.
Where are you at about geographic wise driving, and what are you using it for?
Also wouldn't hurt to know your motor, trans, and rear end gearing.
In NY, and the truck will be used for country back roads, no highway driving. Use it for my weekend running around town. Runs very good, has the original 300 motor with an automatic trans.
Was thinking classic wheels like (mybe 15x7 or 15x8 with 235x60x15 tires for a little more meat):
Sharp truck, and even if you change wheels, take care of what's on it. I don't know what's on it size wise, but a 235/60-15 is pretty near the older size G60-15 and even though they looked great on a '65 Mustang, they are gonna soon look short on a ful size pickup ... and looks is what you are after. I'd consider a 30-9.50x15 minimum myself, on an 8" wide wheel though they work very well on 7" wheels. I'd probably up the rears to 31-10.50x15s too. Being 2wd, Cragar SSs would be way up on my list too, and I'd run 15x7 on front, standard dish ... and 15x8 out back, some dish. Certainly not 22s or other new age wheels.

Thx, yes think the Craar SS's might be the winner. want to get as much tire in there to fill the wheel wells. Like the idea of the 30's to get a nice AT tire too to add some attitude, rather than run car tires on a truck

https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.4828d4cd...pid=ImgRaw&r=0 These are my hands down favorite on a red truck. Only maintenance required is a drop of oil or never seize on the hub cover bolts. 2nd choice is the Ford white spoke wheels and they are very heavy but same center caps. If you need to go up in rim size try to find some original first generation Lightning wheels. None of the above are chromed but have understated elegance and low maintenance.
