Priming Carb

Hey guys. Sorry in advance if this is a very dumb question. Just rebuilt a 2100, and firing it up today. Rather than using starting fluid, can I just pour some fuel down this vent tube to fill up the float bowl? Pic was taken prior to a deep clean and a rebuild.

Just dump 1/4 cup down the throat of the carb. Stand by with a fire bottle and start the engine. If the timing is right, it will start and the fuel pump will fill the carb.

Easy enough! Thought opening the choke and pouring it might be a little sloppy but I guess no different than using starting fluid.
