When I got my 76 Highboy a while back it had no Dome Light... just a wire hanging down with some black tape on it. I have replaced my door jam switches and the wire is hot when I open the door. I ordered a new Dome Light from Dennis Carpenter and it looks fine but I have no idea how to hook up the wire to it. It has no place to attach a wire and of course it did not come with any instructions. Is there some special connector that attaches to one of the 4 screws? It appears that the power should hook up to one of them.
The power feed runs to the top right mounting screw. (See threaded connector)
If your wire is missing the connector, I would put a ring connector on it and drill a hole to feed it through the back of the housing to that top right mounting screw. Use the plastic housing to insulate it from the sheet metal. Notice the upper right screw
John89 I am missing that special connector. So if I understand.... I need to connect my wire to the top right screw on the dome light but protect it from touching the body somehow.? I’m assuming that special connector isn’t available anywhere.
After thinking on this a little more and looking at the links to the stock connector above, it may not be as easy as adding a ring or fork connector.
You may have to either get the stock connector (pricey) or use a plastic screw and a non-conductive backing plate at that one location.
Post a picture of the spot where the stock connector should be.
I fiddled with mine a little, but am afraid I will break it if I try to see how it attaches. My guess is that there is an open square for the stock connector to snap into.
The door jamb switch does not ground when open to close the circuit and illuminate. That’s on chevys. Power goes to the door jamb switch on a yellow/green stripe, and exits the switch on a black/blue to the dome light. It grounds to the body on a mounting screw. Fordification.net shows the circuit diagram in their technical articles. As for the connector, I am not sure I have not taken my down to look but can do that if you need me to.
