If you and your passenger have different temperature comfort levels, then yes. If your passenger is your spouse or significant other, then hell yes.
If neither of the above, then no.
The air in the cabin gets mixed so the cabin air from one side to the other won't vary significantly. The real difference is the temperature of the air coming out of the vents, that is what can be uncomfortable. Warm air blowing on someone that is feeling hot or cold air blowing on someone who is feeling cold is uncomfortable.
As a driver, I don't care. I have my temperature control either way. My wife likes it, but even then I usually have to remind her.
"I'm cold."
"Well then turn your heat up dear."
"Oh, forgot about that."
That's funny as the same thing happens with my wife. I remind her that the temperature control button is right there in front of her. She just needs to reach out her hand and set the temp to precisely where she wants it. She either changes the temp setting or closes/redirects the vents that are blowing on her.
When traveling, my wife likes to cover up then turn her side down to the mid 60's. I keep mine at 72* all of the time. Our trips would be challenging without dual controls.
I debated between XLT and Lariat, and went with a lariat. Here are the things that made me jump up in order of importance to me. Some of these were options on XLT, so I figured that into the decision.
leather seats
ventilated seats (I live in Georgia so heated is useless)
12” screen
power seat w memory, and power passenger seat
8” dash screen
poweredscope mirrors
rear seat chargers
Dual zone was not a big deal for us. We had it in her car and rarely use it. We are pretty temperature compatible.
My 12 YO daughter runs hot. She's the only person that's ever switched the passenger side to a different setting than the rest of the truck. It's not a deal-breaker for me.
My wife and I keep ours within on or two degrees of each other, but we've been marries a long time and have driven many miles without the dual zone. I would not order without dualzone unless it's a money deal.
That is one option I miss more than many others on my current truck.... makes drives with my wife frustrating at times since she is always cold and I am always hot... Although she is the hot one and she thinks I'm cool
I think its one of the dumbest features, if you and the wife have drastically different temps set the R and L basically fight each other, one trying to heat, the other trying to cool. As if theres some invisible wall between you and the passenger. I never use it in my truck and if my passenger tries to move their dial, I smack their hand away with authority......lol
