I recently bought a '95 E350 CutAway and am going thru it fixing things, somehow in my efforts to clean up the wiring I can't get the engine to run. The warning module isn't lighting up showing the glow plug activation. The engine will turn over on 'Start' and try to run but won't pick up & go. Any ideas on what I could've done?
I haven't removed/cut any wires on the engine.
The engine ran fine until I started fixing things.
Any thoughts on what I'm missing, the only clue is the Glow Plug light is not lit up.
Thanks, Oj
btw, I have the factory manual for electrical & the diesel engine suppliment should show up today.
I just now found the GlowPlug relay, I can't get to it. I have a 200amp generator and its behind it, I can just see it from behind, can't see it at all from the front. As Sherlock Holmes would say..'This is a three pipe problem!'
I've finally been able to spend some time troubleshooting, I followed the advice given here, it turns out that there is a solenoid supplying power to the glowplug relay and the fuse supplying power to the wire that energized the relay was burned out, I replaced it but the circuit is dead at the connector to the solenoid. It's wire is different colorcode from the schematic, the schematic calls for Purple/Orange and the wire is Red/Lt Blue, its included in a harness with a pair of large Yellow and a small pair into a connector that I take for either front end collision or security.
Anyway, I am grateful for your advice, you have gotten me on the right track, I have no doubt once I find where that Red/ltBlue is cut and repaired/replaced it'll start up and run like a brand new truck.
I've replaced the front calipers, & hoses; new grille, headlight and turnlight buckets (still trying to figure out what lamps to get), a new sterio, new GPS w/backup camera (I have no rearview mirror, theres no rear window) and have the mirrors off and decided to restore them; rear flexible brake hose and looking for new interior trim pieces and upholstery. She's gonna be a sweetie when I'm done. Thanks for the help.
I'm glad to report that the truck fired right up and idles perfect! My mistake was to confuse the auxiliary battery relay for the starter relay. There are 2 different starter relays, one on the starter and one at that cluster in the left front, Mistook that one at the cluster for being the aux battery relay and had the PCM & IDM feeds on the load side of the relay so they only had power when in 'Start' mode. Thats why the color code of the trigger wire wasn't right, I was trying to figure it out and added a jumper from hot to trigger terminal and the starter engaged, thats when realized my mistake!
WooHoo! its running!
