1986 coolant filter kit

Im going to be servicing the cooling system in my 86 F350. Dually, auto, 6.9 IDI - (73k original miles) and I cant find a kit. I bought a Baldwin CFB5000 base and a B5134 filter that I use on my excursion. It is a water pump filter though. Could I just put a T inline with the heater core in and out nd run the Bypass there? Any issues with that? I have tried to read some directions on some of these kits for the newer trucks, but they have places to connect at various points that the old brown beast doesn't.

Thanks!

Im also going to flush with the VC-1 cleaner and switch to the Rotella HD ELC

I was also thinking of putting in a heater core bypass manifold too since it will be cut and maybe help the AC. I assume the technology on the 86 doesn't shut off flow to the heater core when not in use like newer models.....

Mine is in parallel with the heater core, basically pop in a T-ee fitting into each heater core hose and feed those new hoses to your coolant filter. I got valves on the filter head so I can shut it off to change the filter without making a huge mess, but that ain't mandatory just convenient.

You're right that your heater core flow never shuts off even with the A/C on. Ford put in a factory bypass valve in some Rangers and Explorers, but it's a plastic thing that I know ppl to have had leaks with. You can use that as many ppl successfully do, or you can build yourself like a manifold setup with 3 valves - two to stop flow in and out of the core and one to bypass it do you don't force all the flow thru your new coolant filter.
