I'm putting a coolant filter on my truck and I don't plan to run it as a bypass filter. I want it running full flow like most big trucks do these days to the heater core. I'll run it as a bypass if the heater stops running us out of the truck.
Anyway, the heater hose going into the water pump is on the suction side of the pump right? And the one going out of the right head is the one going TO the heater core?
Just wanted to get this right before I plumb this thing in. I am using the napa filter kit. It's pretty basic but that's what I like.
I was planning to do it this morning. I was trying to run my truck on distilled water for a few days with just a gallon of fleet charge antifreeze in it, to bust up the scale in my radiator. Doesn't look like it's going to happen. I'll just get a new radiator this winter. It's been getting warm on me pulling hills with that camper lately.
Anyway, I'm gonna cut the hose coming out of the head and just plumb the filter right into it on it's way to the heater core. That's about the best way I can think of to do it.
I am making a bracket this morning to mount it to the two right top bolts on the alternator bracket. I'll try to post pictures tonight if I can remember the password for my website. I haven't done anything with it in over a year.
Yeah, that's where I got the idea but I didn't get nearly as carried away as he did. No valves on mine or bypass. I've got it on now and it works. No leaks. I found a piece of 1/8 inch thick steel plate in my pile and drilled the holes and bent it for the filter. Took all of 15 minutes. It's perfect hanging off the side of the alternator like that. I used the same filter kit he did and the zero additive filter since I got new antifreeze. I switched it to the fleet guard with dca already added. The heater still runs us out so I guess it will be ok direct plumbed into it. I got a lot of crap in my cooling system and hope this helps. I learned my lesson at Ford about flushing one of these chemically. I ended up having to pull the heads and do all the injector cups on that one. Really pissed me off too since th ecustomer insisted on the flush against my advice and I told him something was gonna leak with all the miles he had on it. I pulled the heads because one head gasked started leaking too. And the cups were easier. But with all the complaining he did the boss made me do it on warranty time. I quit as soon as I got done!

Good to hear. I think I will try a version of it later on this year when I change the heater hoses.
Rocky
If you take a short piece of angle iron and bolt it to the alt bracket there is room to hang the filter between the alt and the overflow bottle. Here's some pics of my 2nd version. The 1st was the same except shorter and without the trans filter
And then when I did the 6.0 IC I had to move it over between the WWF tank and the inner fender.
yep. It's mounted on the alternator. My 94 is a little different where the overflow bottle is and it won't really fit there. I tried that first though.
just as a thought, for those who are wanting to build their own kit, check www.fleetfilter.com it is the same NAPA kit for a lot less $$, it will be where mine comes from next month
