I was pulling the sensor to perform the 10k resistor mod and dropped the little yellow rubber boot of the sensor into the valley of the engine. Though its bright yellow, I can see it as it rolled directly under other parts. Anyone have any great tricks for getting this out? It seems to be blocked from coming out the front. Perhaps it will come out the back. I was thinking about parking my truck up on one of my steep embankments and using the garden hose (without high pressure) to try and coax it out the back of the engine. Can you think of any reason that would hurt anything, or any better ideas?
I assume its just for waterproofing. What should I do if I can't retrieve it. Caulk it, electrical tape, etc.?
Well, I got it back. Driving the truck pushed the yellow boot back against the bottom of the fuel canister. Then I retrieved it with a long handled screwdriver tipped with goop from a glue stick.
I was installing a fuel pressure gauge this week and dropped a brass fitting in the dark, dark valley. (Friggin panicked, had to go to work about a half hour later.)
Anyway I found this "grabber" tool that I bought a while back at Checker, Sears or somewhere. It's about 16" long and has a plunger on one end and is has a spring loaded wire that has 4 claws and extends when the plunger is drepressed.
Picked up the fitting on the first try and finished the job.
I think this tool is a must when working on the PSD engine area.
Glad I had it!
