You buying that from the dealer? Seems a little high. I priced that one out at my local parts store and it was about half that.
I understand that they are supposed to last 50000 to 65000 miles depending on the driving.

I bought an oil filter, set of fuel filters and an air filter at the local parts place for $173.00 total. The oil filter was motorcraft, the air and fuel were WIX. I haven't replaced the air filter yet, but wanted a spare.

I spoke with a place in Tampa that does alot of perf. mods on Diesels of all types. They seemed to be very knowledgable. I asked about the K&N filter. He says that it is not K&N (I forgot who he said made it) and that it was so expensive because it comes complete with a new box and everything. He says Ford is real proud of it and it was specially made for the PSD.

That's for an aftermarket intake. I'm going to the dealership to check the price at the parts counter to see.

The one I bought was from Wix, identical to the Motorcraft. He's right it has the housing and all. You unsnap the ends, remove and replace the entire center portion. I found it easier to remove the whole assembly( just loosen two clamps and unhook two set of sensor wires) then disassemble and reassemble out where you can make sure it seals correctly. I had a wesite that listed parts and filters, but I've misplaced it.
