The engine runs great. I hate to trade in a truck Itrove which runs fantastic just because of some rust that I would think could be fixed. But it almost sounds like it is trade in time.
I hate it myself, where I live the bodies of any vehicle go well before the drivetrains and trying to repair rot is a losing battle. From the pictures you posted I personally wouldn't bother sinking any money into rot repair, just keep driving it as is.
Since I am in the process of repairing rust damage on the bed of my 2012, I can tell you just by the few pictures that there is a LOT of work to be done. Parts are readily available, but the labor involved is pricey. If the rockers are that bad, what do the body mounts look like? Honestly, the only way to do that job correctly is to gut the cab and put it on a rotisserie, where you can get to all parts to work on it. To repair it correctly, that entire rocker from A pillar to the back and the corner have to be removed, and doing so while the cab is on the truck with everything in it can cause it to not align properly which could throw the doors off.
The doors would need to be reskinned provided there is adequate metal left on the inner shell to secure it to.
You can pick the parts you would need and get an idea what material costs are for the metal. Their parts fit very well and the coating is on GOOD. Very impressed with the parts I received.
I'd just do a full body swap before paying to have that repaired
Find a rust free cab and swap it with your cab. McGyvering the install will be minimal if you can find a cab from a truck with the same engine and trim level.
Your supposed to use the title off the new body at least where I'm at according to dmv, insurance, and someone I know that did it. Best to confirm local rules on that though
If replacing the cab, contact the DMV of your state on the legalities required when doing a swap. In some, if not all states it is a class 2 felony to swap VIN tags unless it is fully documented with the correct paperwork. Some states you can swap bodies, and instead of swapping VIN, you are issued a new VIN and a new title.
Swapping bodies might seem like the ideal solution, and in most cases it is, but there is paperwork involved, and hoops to jump through, which is why I said make sure you keep the VIN tag from the old body. In IL if a cab is from a totaled vehicle that has been titled as such, you can't use it to re-title the truck, and you have to go through the State Police and SOS to get a new VIN issued.
