1st I would like to appolagize since this has nothing to do about a truck, as much as I want 1. Good news is I finally found a 351 block to replace my poor old 302. Its a carbed 85 351w HD. I bought it for $250 from a local junk yard about 5 mins away off the parkway. I was told it was removed from a bus. Kinda strange, but hell. If it can pull a bus with a load of kids Im sure itll have no problem with my gutted Mustang. Not to mention that being for HD service like that Im praying to god it has a 4 bolt main. Anyways... I was curious if anyone knows of a website where I could locate info from block ID and so forth. Intake manifold, internals, and heads for sale if anyones interested. Thanks for your time, Razed
I don't think there was ever a 4 bolt main windsor block.
this link was provided by someone else on this board but it does the trick if the heads on it are E5TE they are the same as the E7TE on mustangs but have larger combustion chambers so if your looking for a budget job then porting and milling them might be worth your time. Good luck http://www.pacificnet.net/~fastoso/castingcode.html
I'm not sure if any 4 bolt 351W blocks were installed in regular production vehicles, but there are and have been a wide array of such blocks available. Here are some part numbers as examples:
Those are aftermarket ford blocks. Again I don't think there were any production windsor blocks with four bolt mains (as in every main had four bolts). later
Actually I did a search on the first two and they came up as svt race blocks one had a deck height of 9.2". Who knows they are definitely not production blocks
I didn't suggest that they were production blocks - these are all blocks out of the Ford Racing catalog, with a combination of deck heights, sump configurations, and main cap configurations - some are all 4 bolt, some are 4 bolt on selected mains. Nevertheless, these are "windsor" blocks. Dart also makes windsor style 302 and 351 blocks with four bolt mains.
Regardless, it is highly unlikely that any of these blocks are in the engine in question in this thread, but it is misleading to suggest that there is no such thing as a 4 bolt 351W - This configuration is available with many Ford castings.
I just bought a book on "Windsors", and its true that most production blocks were only 2 bolt mains. The only exception was the Boss 302 block casting which had a 4 bolt main, then again the Boss 302 also had Clevand heads on it as well. A lot of aftermarket blocks do come as 4 bolt mains for added strength due to higher tolerances needed for racing. Thanks to everyone for your contributions to my question. Now I would like to ask what a stock 351 piston looks like. I removed the heads last night and they have about a 1/8 - 1/4 recess and still valve relief notches. Is that stock or possibly due to a higher lift cam since it was in a bus?? Thanks again, Razed
