The other day, my '88 E-150, 302, auto, with 163,000 mi just stalled, and would not restart.
I got a ride home in a tow truck, checked the fuel at the diverter, that was ok. Today I checked the spark it was light, so I replaced the
plugs and wires, spark was brighter. I also replaced the dist. cap and rotor, but still won't start! Any Ideas? Thanks Mike
a few months back, my 87 f150 just died out of the blue. i was just sitting at a red light, and all of a sudden the engine died and wouldn't start up. i checked all the same things you have, but i finally gave up and took it to a shop, and they swapped the ignition module, and that did the trick. it was the original one, so i guess it was just time for it to be replaced.
My 87 F-150 302EFI has had problems like this as well, turned out to be Ignition Control Module as well. Also, the Ingnition Switch seems to take a beating as well in my truck, it is mounted on the Steering Column and tends to come apart. My Control Module is mounted on my distributor and you need a special tool to remove it. Also had to turn the distributor to get to the bolts holding it in place and to replace it.
As it turned out it was the Positive batt. cable,
it was split on the bottem of the lead connector.
Repaced it and the van started right up, of course the tune up didn't hurt! Thanks, Mike
