I just bought an 03 F250 super duty with the Triton V-8. After a couple of days I discovered it has no catalytic converter, but the engine is running like a song. The auto parts store said it’s throwing code P0420, which is no surprise. A friend of mine said that my ECU will lock to a default setting while this code is active, which reduces mileage and performance. Is this correct? Is there a way to override this code and fool the CPU into thinking I still have a cat?

Anti-foulers, one or two, stacked under the downstream O2 sensor(s), will usually make the PCM happy enough. Google search...
If you're subject to emissions testing, an observant inspector will notice the lack of converter and the anti-foulers and fail you. If no emissions inspection, you really don't need to do anything unless you just want the MIL to not come on.
There are companies out there that sell 'emulators' for the rear O2 sensor - I had one on my old '99 Jimmy. However, I did have to buy the wiring harness for it, since it was designed for a GM car. So you may need to do something along that route, because they definitely aren't legal for street use if your vehicle originally had a cat...it's an off-road or track item only. So OF COURSE my old truck NEVER went down the road...heh.

Perfect! I’m not subject to emissions testing and couldn’t care less about the light. I just didn’t want any loss of performance and/or engine damage. Happy to leave it as is, thanks for the help.
