Question Tail Light Wiring

I have 2 pairs of plugs in my tail light wiring harness. 1 pair I believe are the license plate lamps. What is the other pair for ?????? Both look to be stock wiring. The license wiring are brown wires. The other pair feeds off the plug to the drivers side tail light harness, 2 long female connectors...........

Your license plate lights are the same wires used for the clearance lights in your taillight housing. Put power to them and see what lights up.

I am working on the same harness of my 71 F250 CS..The harness is all hacked from years of splicing and rewiring..
You have two plugs..1 has 2 wires to it and the other has 3 wires to it. One plug has a green wire-Right side turn and brake- The other plug has a yellow wire-Left side turn and brake.
The plug that has the 3 wires to it, the third is the backup lights..

There are 2 female plugs at the midpoint of the harness, with about a foot of space between them..license plate light power..there is suppose to be a light on each side of the plate,,Those 2 female plugs are for the 2 lights.

The clearance lights are all of the dimmer lights that come on when you pull the switch halfway out. tailights, license plate lights, the lights on the side of the truck and the dimmer lights in your turn signals. If i remember right Ford has them wired on a brown wire like trailers.
