5600km. Have used just over a liter. Towing 12 to 20k daily since break in.
I would say typical burn off. Some oils burn off more than others. I’m just putting it out there from my experience since changing to Amsoil a few years ago I don’t experience any oil burn off between oil changes anymore I do mine at 5,000 miles. The truck does get worked hard. I have that result with everything at my house and I run Amsoil in everything now.

You pay a premium amount for a boutique oil, then perform a short change interval at 5000 miles! Your money, but I thought these expensive oils were good for 10,000+ miles.

Always someone thats got something smart to say. I gave the man my honest opinion on it. Your probably one that pays for maintenance and doesn’t know whats going on or what your talking about. I know what I see on everything at my house since the change thats what I go by.
I buy premium oil and change at shorter intervals than "required" as well. Who cares? I ran nearly 10k on my last change because we did a 5500 mile road trip. All highway, empty truck, not much stress on the oil. Really depends on how you use your truck and I adjust the interval according to my use, not what the silly mileage timer on the truck says. If I am working it hard towing through the mountains and up and down steep dirt roads or have a couple snow plowing events I change sooner, usually around 5k, full synthetic, premium filter. I have not seen ANY oil loss in 30k miles.
As someone who sells amsoil I'll even tell you there are some products I don't use and I don't always run it to the max interval for various reasons. I will say that for any oil no matter the brand there is nothing better than getting an oil analysis. Blackstone is probably the best known and easiest one to deal with since they send you the kits for free and you don't pay for it until you send it in. The only problem with black stone and why I switched to the amsoil tests you pay for up front is that black stone doesn't actually test for fuel dilution they estimate it based on other tests, oil analyzer/amsoil actually tests specifically for the fuel dilution.
As far as the OPs question burning oil is somewhat normal and some owners manuals will actually specify what's a normal amount. A high quality oil is less likely to cause issues and less likely to burn off so I'd start by changing to a different oil to see how it performs before wondering if there's a problem with the truck itself.
I use Amsoil in my 2017 car wiht 85k miles, I use the grade suitable for 12k miles and my OLM usually at 10-15% is around 10k miles, my 2004 diesel truck with 250k miles I also use Amsoil and change it every 10k miles which is about once a year. My 2003 F150 with 115k miles I use Motorcraft oil and change it at 5k miles which is about once a year. The Ford is the only vehicle that I need to add oil between changes.
Most full synthetic oils say 10 to 12 K, but that's not towing. 5K sounds like a good number if you tow regularly. Tire manufacturers recommend rotating tires at 5K so it's a good time to do both.

Exactly. 5-7.5k with 5w-40 full synthetic oil if you tow often, use biofuel, dusty environments etc.
Boutique oils (Amsoil, Redline, etc) are not necessary.
Just use a good quality synthetic oil and change your oil at regular intervals.
Here is a video showing a high mileage 5.4L that uses Mobil 1.

Pennzoil Platinum is $25 for 5 quarts at Walmart or Amazon. Why pay more for Boutique oils?????
