Just use a good quality synthetic oil and change your oil at regular intervals.

Pennzoil Platinum is $25 for 5 quarts at Walmart or Amazon. Why pay more for Boutique oils?????
The same argument can be made for stepping up from what he manufacturer recommends too right? I ran Motorcraft semi-syn in both of my last two Ford trucks, a first gen Raptor and an F250 without any problems and LOTs of miles. The real trick is to change oil often enough to keep build-up from occurring. We are both "wasting money" by even buying full synthetic using your argument. I still do it with my new truck and my wifes new Jeep however. I also use Penzoil because it is cheap and easy to find for both vehicles. I also change at about half the recommended intervals, wasting more yet. Probably no point in doing that either...

I used to run Amsoil exclusively in my Porsches that were used regularly on the track. I knew people that had bearing issues even running Mobil 1 doing this and rebuilding your Porsche engine after a failure is a painful experience. So I switched up to Amsoil and never in many years of track time did it fail me. We all make choices based on experiences. Why pay more? Because sometimes it is worth it...

thats one engine, I’ve seen vehicles maintained like he recommends throw a rod. Its also strange I can’t seem to find his video anymore where he compared two of the same engines and made a hell of a lot of speculations about what some oils did or didn’t do.

while boutique oils may not be necessary they certainly have their place in the market, one could say plain synthetic Mobil1 isn’t necessary since conventional oils will keep the engine alive for the average user. When people are towing heaving and constant, running in severe conditions, extending drain intervals etc. is where the higher end oils shine.

In the end it doesn’t matter what you run, because everyone is just guessing what’s works or doesn’t. The only thing that will actually tell you what any oil is or isn’t doing is a oil analysis.

A whole lot of talk about what the oil manufacturer suggests but not one person referenced the oil change intervals listed in the owner's manual. It says right in there severe use intervals are 3-5,000 miles. Towing daily, towing heavy, high temps, dusty environments all constitute severe duty.
I dont care if the oil change cost $200, if you leave the oil in for 10,000 miles driving in those conditions you are not doing yourself any favors extending out your OCI past 5,000 miles. 10,000 mile intervals is for people driving on the highway empty. If you only put 12,000miles/year you are only going to do 1 oil change the whole year?

Hell my electric car sees 20,000+ miles a year. If I’m not working the truck it’s easily another 15-20k and it does 5-6k a week when I’m working. Not sure where you’re from but a good bit of people drive well past 12k a year.

Where I'm from has nothing to do with how many miles a year the average person drives. Not everyone drives 40k miles a year but you are sharing YOUR experience and applying it to all.
I just used an example of someone only driving 12k miles/yr and changing their oil at 10k mile intervals.
I personally drive closer to 20k/year now and change every 3-4k because I tow heavy with my truck the majority of my miles.

Everybody has their thing.... I change at 5k intervals with full synthetic. I drive 30-40k a year mostly empty but plow in the winter and tow some in the summer. I used to do 10k intervals on my wifes VW because she drove it easy and all highway. I do her Jeep at 5k but it barely goes 10k in a year.

it does though, if you live in a big city you’re not having to drive 15 miles to the store like I have to in the county. People in states like Wyoming and other rural areas average 20k+ every year while people in some east coast areas only average about 7k a year.

You didn't read my previous comment or the reply comment to that where someone asked "where do you live that you only drive 12k miles a year?" I didnt say I drove any miles per year I said IF the average person drives 12,000 miles a year. Not that I drive any miles. I stated that and then stated "where I'm from has nothing to do with the average miles SOMEONE ELSE drives" I didnt say anything about me driving a certain number of miles in those comments.
