park brake cable adjustments

So I have a 1984 F350 that I've done a TON of service on, including new parking brake cables on the rear, and a new equalizer. The only issue: I dont know how to properly adjust the cables to have good park brake engagement. This is a manual truck, so good park brakes are important.

does anyone on here know how to adjust the cables?

thanks

On mine I took up on the play so when I step on the pedal it clicks 2 or 3 times and dose not go to the floor.
Been holding pretty good but i also leve it in granny gear.

Make sure to manually adjust the rear brake shoes before doing anything with the cables.

Here’s a good video explaining the process. The subject vehicle is a Jeep, but the general principle is the same. The video starts with the drums removed for a better view, but around 3:00 he shows how to adjust the shoes with no need for any disassembly. Remove the rubber plug for access, and that’s it. The process is actually very quick:

This is something I haven't addressed yet with my 82, I learned young never to use the park brake on an F-150 unless I had a hammer and a pair of vise grips in the truck. So this is an interesting discussion.

I learned young never to use the park brake in the winter as the cables can freeze and not release.
Or the shoes to the drums.

Yeah my oldest memory of this issue is being in my high school parking lot with a set of vise grips and a hammer in -25C weather trying to unstick it so I could go home after playing Warcraft 2 against the mechanics teacher.
