Rust free, with a new Ford transmission, interior in good shape your 7.3l will bring well over $10k. I get people asking me all the time if I'd sell mine when they hear that 7.3 at the fuel stations and grocery stores. The 7.3s ARE in demand despite the diesel prices.
So maybe a no-go on the Jasper.
As far as the condition of the truck, it's average. Hood paint is peeling pretty bad, there a few dents and dings on the rear, and some previous owner did a poor job repainting the right rear corner (I guess the D pillar?) after backing into something.
I'm guessing this truck could go for $8k with a working trans.
$4000 seems steep for a transmission rebuilt to OEM specifications. Although, with inflation and "supply chain issues", that may be the going rate at the moment.
You mentioned south Florida, there are places near Atlanta that do good work and then there is BTS in AR if you want to go premium rebuild if you plan to keep the Ex.
There's no way I can have this truck towed any distance to have it repaired, although I appreciate the suggestion. The shop where I have it does frame-off restoration work on Super Duty trucks of all kinds. I'm confident I've got it at one of the best spots in Fort Lauderdale. I'm thankful for that.
I'm also gonna see if I can source a junkyard transmission... just to see how much it costs.
Just out of curiosity did you have an bigger transmission cooler?
Good question. I don't have an auxiliary cooler on there. I think I'm on the factory setup.
Having said that, I don't generally tow anymore. And I've got an Edge CTS2, so I monitor the tranny temp when I'm towing. Never got into the red, to my knowledge.
EDIT: To that point, it was a hard part that broke. I guess the fluid is all sparkly now. Oooooohhhh.... aaaaaaaaahhh...
Look around on craigslist, 4R100 trans are all over the place, lots of small shops that rebuilt them and turn them around via craigslist, i would recommend finding a rebuilder on CL that offers a warantee, and scoring one of them.
To clarify, i am NOT saying go buy a used/potentially junk trans, im saying there are lots of rebuilders who sell through craigslist, at discounted prices, with a warantee.
IF it comes to it, you could call Extreme Overdrive Plus in Jacksonville, they appear to have good reviews and claim to specialize in heavy duty strengthened transmissions, and say pricing starts at 1150, potentially including install depending on the trans.....

If that's the case with the fluid, Ford requires a new cooler with their rebuilt trans anyway to preserve the warranty. With that said, a new cooler is a must no matter what you do. Contact Tasca and find out about having it shipped to your current shop.
There is 2 kinds of twinkle and sparkle in oil or trans fluid tho, i had a friend change his oil on a brand new car, its first ever oil change, and panic, it has little tiny microscopic sparkles, not tons, but some, and only noticeable in direct sunlight looking right down into the oil close up.
He thought his brand new engine was ruined, I had to explain to him what the term, "wear-in process" meant and that sparkles are not bad on a new engine, unless they are well, more....
There is a difference between a few micro twinkles in the pan that disappear as soon as you try to pick them out with your fingers, and when it looks like someone threw a whole bottle of glitter into the oil as a prank except its real.
You have to under stand the source of these values... A forum that people own excursions. They are usually going to give you an over priced value. Realistically you are looking about 10k for a running 7.3 in excellent condition with those miles. Any scratches, dings, rust is going to lower that.
With the transmission people are going to have to take a gamble on if anything else is wrong so you got a quote of $4000 to fix, I would knock off another $2000 just in case other issue come up. So max I would ask in $4000 for the rig as is.
As a buyer this would still be a huge gamble. If everything works out then most you will be up is $2000 but this doesn't include time lost due to getting vehicle repaired.
I would post on facebook market place and see if you even get any hits for $4000. I am betting there won't be too many door knocks. But if there is, jack that price up, the buyers will stop bugging when you hit your limit.
10k for excellent condition with those miles? That’s it? Fix it and send it west and get 20k all day
20k for a 350k miles excursion.. What you smoking.. Wait, out west, I know. That 7.3 is bout end of life too.. But yeah send it out west lol.
350k miles is at the end of life 🤣 yeah we’re known to blaze out west, I personally don’t indulge but telling someone they’re 350k mile excursion is only worth 10k is a crack smokers tale, with 344 on the clock i guess i better start looking for a new truck,
full list of mods on stock internals and an occasional 37psi pull, 100 miles a day commute daily driver
After much debate, I decide to keep the ol' girl on the road. I found a shop that would rebuild the tranny and do all installation for ~$3k (with a 2 year warranty), so I decided to keep driving it and see if I want something else in the next year or so.
Happy to have come to a conclusion that feels good, and keeps an Excursion on the road.
