I am installing a rear view ("backup") camera on my 2004 F250 SD XL crew cab long bed truck. I have two questions, one on cable routing, the second on power sources. The camera is wired, so I'm dealing with small diameter coax cable from the license plate frame to the display near the dashboard. I intend to cable tie the wire under the bed rails going forward (I may or may not enclose in conduit - have not yet decided), but I am not certain of the best way to get the cable into the cabin. I have run wires previously from under the bed to the engine compartment, but never into the cab. I would very much prefer not to drill a hole if that can be easily avoided. Are there any existing gromments or plugged entrances to the cab behind or under the rear seat? I looked fairly closely and didn't see any, but the truck has a lot of area to hide such a thing. Recommendations, please?
Second question - according to the camera documentation, it appears that I need to find a 12V source for the camera that is separate from that for the display (which has a lighter plug). The vendor recommends the back-up light circuit if the camera is to be used only when backing up, which makes perfect sense. However, I intend to use the camera at all times, as a sort of auxilliary rear view mirror, so I would like to find a 12V source near the rear of the truck that is live whenever the ignition is on. Any ideas about that?
