Has anyone had any dramatic price changes from the MSRP when you built your truck to the completion date. I am hearing different stories and I’m curious to see how much was the difference.
It depends on when you ordered the truck, and when your truck was built/invoiced. There were 4 price hikes during the 2022 time frame. $250, $250, $1295, & $1000. There was another towards the very end too I believe, but it wasn't an across the board price hike... it depended on trim and options. Last I checked, from the time I ordered mine (5/24/2021) til they closed the 2022 order banks, the difference was around $3700. From the time I ordered mine till I picked it up, only the two $250 price hikes happened, so my MSRP was $500 higher than when I ordered (however, my dealer removed them and charged me the originally agreed upon price so I didn't have to pay them. Ford will reimburse the dealerships for the price hikes when the person that ordered takes delivery.)
Price you pay is what the price was when you ordered it if you are COVP. Doesn't matter what the sticker says as it will always show the current price. If your dealer is saying you get to pay more, you're being lied too. COVP order is price protected and that hasn't changed.

Not all dealers honor this... and they are happy if you walk...

It's not about honoring it....it's mostly being greedy and maybe lazy (both?) . The dealer is not out any money on price protection on the sale. You're correct though that if you walk they can add a ridiculous ADM on it. However I'd be curious how that would work on a COVP as I believe it needs to be in writing that the customer is letting it go. What if I don't put it in writing that I don't want it? I just ordered it and made no commitment to take it when it came.
My dealer whom I've bought many rigs over 20 some years let me know last week that "because of the cost increases, my price may be higher. That's what we've been dealing with ford lately." I called bs and sent him some paperwork on fords price protection program and who to call if he had questions on the process and I haven't heard a word out of him. Big surprise.
One more thing to consider, I've heard third hand because the volume of sales is down, some dealers have changed the sales commission to be based on gross sale vs the way it's traditionally been done. This would incentivize a sales person to tell you that you have to pay the new price and there is no price protection. I guess I'll see what happens if and when my truck is built. I get supply and demand but some are just screwing people imo.

My MSRP jumped $2,625 from when I ordered it Aug 2021 and the as-built window sticker. My dealer tried to tell me "With the cost of parts and supply chain issues, this is the price now", to which I informed him "No, I have price protection on an order. The real question is do you want to remain my dealer of choice or do you want me to walk away from, considering the vehicles I buy, just so you can make a couple extra grand off a single sell?". Surprisingly, he had no issue with honoring the price protection after that.

Thankfully, my dealer made it easy to make sure my price was protected.... the service department at my local Ford dealership on the other hand is the worst place on earth! I will be near Granger Ford in a few weeks and will get in touch with them about getting some recall stuff done.
When I picked up my F250 a month ago the sales guy claimed that between the $3,500 CPO and $1,295 price protection that he was losing money. I "slowly" explained to him he was still getting the original MSRP as Ford was covering the $4,795. Geeeees!...
My truck was MSRP 82,575 on 9/11 when I ordered my truck and was $84,870 when the window sticker was created in beginning of February. Dealer honored my original price.
I have a barn full of vehicles that don't get driven. They are there if I want or need them.
As far as being rich, that is relative. I probably am. A lifetime of focus and commitment to that goal has worked.
Economics say that Ford can charge whatever they want. The vehicles would get sold.
