Grinding Noise
That is an interesting issue for sure. I recently had some strange dull noises and as it turned out ,it was indeed my clutch.
mine sounded more like a dull jingling sounds like the chains on the trailer tongue were dragging on the ground lightly. It didn't do it at idle but only at low load rpms. I began wondering if the chain in the transfer case was singing.
normally when you shut off the cruise or simply let off the throttle, while in gear at speed, you feel a more sudden decel moment vs ana auto trans. Mine had developed a delay in the sudden decline feeling and it become a slightly stronger feeling.
At first I thought it was the rear diff, not it so I replaced the carrier bearing, helped but not it, new u joints, better but not it.
turned out it was the pressure plate. I had a luk clutch rated for 475 hp. The new one is a south bend rated for 425 and far far smoother on take offs!
not sure if this is your issue or not.
