I don't remember where I read it but I understand Autolite makes the Motorcraft spark plugs so the Autolite iridium #XP5363 ($8.99 each) should be a good OE replacement plug for my 6.2. Now Autolite has a new version, iridium Ultra #AI5363 for $14.49 each. My original plugs ran fine for 98,000 miles. Why would I need to spend $231.84 (plus tax) for these fancy new design plugs versus $143.84 +tax for OEM plugs that should perform perfectly fine? And further, since my engine seems to run fine, do I even need to change my plugs soon?
I went back with oem Motorcraft plugs and wires. I mean if it was a high performance engine or something o would maybe go another route however for pulling my trailer Motorcraft works just fine. Rockauto had the best price when I bought them just fyi.
I would use motorcraft but if I wanted an upgrade I would consider the Denso TT. This is OEM for my Lexus and also the Tundras. Also have it in my Explorer. Starts up in like a fraction of a turn.
I believe DENSO is also the OEM for the Ford coils.
At rockauto the only Motorcraft plug was a double platinum. I want iridium. There was an iridium Denso TT for $6.78, versus the Autolite for $4.48. But the prices were definitely better... nearly half of AutoZone, except for the 9 bucks shipping.
It also occurred to me that even a cheapo plug should work fine given that this engine has TWO plugs per cylinder! So I would think any decent OE quality plug should be more than adequate, right?

A name brand plug (e.g. Motocraft, Autolite, etc) is fine for this application.
The TT is rated for 120K in some Toyota applications (not direct injected). For my Lexus GS, with the 3.5L D4S, it is 60K. But at 100K it looked fine. It would be a safe 100K mile plug in this engine. TT is to ensure zero misfires to protect the cats.
I guess it is just personal preference what brand you like, but all those Tier 1 plugs are great.
The single platinum would probably work too, but may not have a long life.
I will put in my two cents.. 40k miles ago i replaced the plugs in my truck with motorcraft, and added denso plug wires.. Now i am at 80k miles and my truck was running like crap.. Turns out one of my plug wires fell off the spark plug, then I replaced the rest of my wires with genuine motocraft wires and found out that 2 other spark plugs had burned out the stem.. So.... I wouldn't touch motorcraft plugs again in my truck and I will not use the denso wires from rock auto again.
Btw.. rock auto gets low prices because its old stock items "most" of the time. Example. I got a fuel filter for another car.. and the box looked like it sat in a window for many years/

I read reviews that denso don't make good plug wires for this engine. Maybe Toyota wanted people to ditch it for the 5.7
I think my wires are stock, they look great, not replacing them yet.
