Hello!! I am a bit confused about the location of the reverse light switch on my 1992 F150. I know it is on the driver's side of the tranny and I understand how it works.. however, I cant seem to find it. This may be a stupid question but is it underneath the truck? or under the hood?? I have crawled under the truck and looked for it ??? Used a flashlight and checked all around the tranny. I thought it would be easily recognized but obviously, I don't know what I'm looking for. I can't seem to find any pictures to help me understand. Will the switch be inside some kind of a connector? or is it a plug-in type? I have a replacement switch but I'm not seeing anything under the truck that looks like it. Am I being a total idiot and looking in the wrong place?, Should I be looking under the hood ? can anyone post a picture of where I should be looking? and what it looks like? Thanks!!!!
If it's A C6 or E4OD, it's on the gear selector shaft of the transmission (The Reverse Light Function is part of the Neutral Safety Switch or MLPS, respectively)
If it's an AOD (And I think the AODE as well), It is part of the Neutral Safety Switch, which screws into the "topside" of the valve body, right above the shift selector shaft.
If it's an NP435, M5OD, ZF5, Usually it's screwed into the case up near the shifter somewhere, so the switch can get activated by the shift rail when you put it in Reverse.
AOD screws into the case. I have seen exactly one 302/E4OD truck that was factory. 70W was not around until 1994. We also have no idea what engine in this truck.
Are you sure the bulbs are just not burned out...or missing?
And in case you had some extra confusion added by them giving you the wrong part, can you post up a pic of the part you bought so we know what you're at?
