Man this year is flying by. Hope everybody is doing well.
I know it's been an eventful year so far but everything is going good for us. So far the bears have not been around at all. Grandkids are walking and running all over the place. Next one due in August. Yep, it's a good year.
Yesterday we had a men's conference at church which turned out really well and everyone enjoyed it. Much of it was outdoors in the parking lot, the theme being "It's Game Day" and so there was a lot of "tailgating" involved. I was in charge of a booth were the game was to use a fishing rod to "cast" a rubber ball into a hula hoop about 50 feet away. I enjoyed watching several fathers teach their sons how to cast with an open face spinner. A few even landed in the hula hoop.
As this was a tailgate event, my 2022 XLT F-250 was next to my pop-up canopy and the canopy was tied of to the truck for anchorage from the wind. Other guys did the same for their booths and games. About half way through the day, one of the younger men walked over and started a conversation about trucks while his kids were trying to hit the hula hoop. After discussing engines and 5th wheel towing for a few minutes:
Young Man: "Rumor has it you paid over $100,000 for that truck"
Me: "Really? You know it's a 2WD, XLT gasser, right?"
Young Man: "I know, but that's what a few of the guys say. Would you mind sharing what it did cost?"
Me: "OK, fine, I'll tell you what I paid. But you can't tell them any different."
So I shared that the truck cost me less than $50,000 after all the dust settled at the dealer. And he promised not to tell "those guys" what I really paid.
So you really don't need Limited, Platinum, King Ranch or any of that. All you really need is Rapid Red paint, and all your friends and neighbors will think you're rich and paid too much for your truck.

Oh, that is hilarious. I have had a similar conversation. Met some guys from the church at a firing range driving our 2003 Excursion. One of the guys got bug eyed and said he was shopping for Excursions online but was unwilling to pay the prices. I agreed and we went and did our thing. I never told him I paid WAAYY less than he thought. Shhhh. Leave him guessing.
Today I went out and interviewed for a part time job with flexible hours. A friend owns the company. I'll probably start next week.
With Sweet Wife still working, that leaves me stuck at home for "retirement" -- which I have found rather boring. I don't need the money, what I need is something to do.
