I just picked up a 2020 F-450 Crew 4x4 Limited to pull my 2017 Grand Design Momentum 397TH and I need a 5th wheel hitch. When the RV dealer dropped it off for me, the driver was pulling it with an F-350 DRW and for some reason his setup couldn't tackle even a 6" rise over 4' without the camper rubbing on his bed rails. So as to not waste time or money, I'm wondering if you seasoned folks might advise me on what type of hitch I should get after.
The hitch weight on the rig is 3,400 lbs and the GVWR is 19,500 - that stuff I suppose is easy enough to figure out when looking for a hitch, but I'm lost on finding the right brand that will perform best, last longest and sit at the right height to avoid bed contact.
We're looking at pulling a 395ms with our 22 450 and I did some research as to not have a bed rail clearance issue.
What works for our 395ms and i verified a 397th also in case we got that was for the 5th wheel hitch we got the Reese m5 and also a gen-Y pin box GH8060 , they were great helping us pick the right pin box before ordering.
I’m running a B&W 25k hitch in the factory pucks and a Morryde Pinbox on my 43’ 20k# Fuzion. I have hitch set on the lowest setting on have roughly 8” of clearance on the bed rails. There should be multiple sets of bolt holes on the pin box on the 5th wheel also that you can gain clearance if needed.
Thanks, all! I've got the B&W 25k coming this week and will see if I need to adjust or replace the pin box (OEM 20k? Lippert Trailair). I suspect the delivery guy may not have had his hitch set at the appropriate height.
I have the ford 25K 5th wheel hitch for when I need it. It will adjust so that the head is almost even with the bed rails. I have it as high as I can get it and there is plenty of clearance.
So I got the B&W in yesterday and I only have 5 inches at it's highest setting. It seems my Lippert Rota-flex 21k 1621 is just too short to get the clearance. I'm told that replacing that pin box with an Air Ride or Flex Air will give me another 4 inches to play with, but those things are like $1.5K. Does anyone know of place that sells them and buys the old ones off of you?
