88 f150 4x4 302 manual which header would be good for low-end torque. i also need to change the alternator from a 65 amp to a 130 amp. i read the alternator off of a Tauras was a good candidate, it already has the serpentine setup so it should be a bolt on but are the wires big enough?
(That is just an example, of the general design, *not* an endorsement of this particular Part.)
The only downside to running a full-length header is that they can have packaging issues, depending on the one you choose. Sometimes they get in the way of being able to change the starter easily, or you have to reroute some wiring or hoses, or work around linkages/steering. Not in every case, but in some. They also do not Mate up to the stock Y-pipe or other exhaust, so you've got to pretty much redo most, if not all of the exhaust system, when you install them.
Like SF said, a good long tube will help with torque. If you have a good local exhaust shop they can fab something up for you. Typically, if you can get it into a 2.5 to 3 inch single that will help as well.
