Yes, I ran them (well, 302 version) on SD for years before I bought that FMS MAF kit. The Super Comps are a better header.
NO, you need to install the O2. That is not a rear O2 to measure cat efficiency. The O2 controls the air fuel mixture, without I believe the EEC-IV reverts back to open loop cold start fueling only.
So it looks like Hooker 6912 HKR are the best for cost. Long tubes. (Cost is important because my 16yo is paying for parts-it’s his truck lol). Does anyone know if these will work with the existing speed density system? I’ve deleted EGR and smog. Either need to add bung for O2 or see if I can find a MIL plug.
already installed comp cams 35-255-5 otherwise she is stock.
I had a set of Hooker headers on my V-10. They had a ball and socket type of connection to the exhaust. They were horrible! Constantly loosened and leaked. Finally put stock manifolds back on. From looking at the pictures, it doesn't seem like this set does.
I personally run the Banks headers and exhaust. Little pricey, but worth every penny. Great fit, great instructions, great tech support.

I will take a Ball and Socket collector flange over having to use a Gasket, or Donut *every* single time. It's not even a question, if such a thing is available for your application, and the packaging works for you. Changing collector gaskets gets old, real quick.

Mine did not have a gasket. Even lock washers and nuts loosened quickly. I would prefer a flange mount and gaskets. Different tastes. 😆
See, that's one of the reasons that on a truck, I went short.
There's something about the length & the flex from the frame/engine & a longer "lever" acting on the rest of the exhaust at the worst join.
If I had a reg cab & manual trans, (like the OP I think) & not an E4 where the collector is right at the solenoid pack connector + I wanted the last bit of HP/TRQ, long tubes would be more viable.
I bought JBA stainless steel long tubes. I cant say how they fit yet as I have yet to install them but from what have seen it looks there should be no problems and they are not necked down like the Pace setters are. Instead they mandrel bend a radius groove into the header tube to allow you to get the bolts in and out. If you want a set of Pacesetters I may know where there is a new set that is not going to be used. It depends if he sold them yet or not. If you want me to check let me know.

Will do. I sent him a message this morning. Also if you are going to fab up your own exhaust the best kit price wise with a bunch of bends came from Jegs. I went with 3" 409 Stainless over the Aluminized and you can weld it with mild steel if you want and it was cheaper. From watching Engine Masters a 3" right from the header into a Y pipe then a 3" single out with a straight through muffler has the same HP & Torque as open headers with a 18" header extension and is good up to 425HP. FYI. The Engine Masters Shorty's is a 1-3/4" primary tube with a 3" collector which we cant buy.

good read. Thanks for sharing! My son has his heart on true duals with glass packs…. I know, I know…… he’s 16 and there is no changing his mind lol. Thanks for checking on the headers. Let me know what you come up with
