Steering Wheel Surgery (1967)
It was even worse then I thought and the center section just fell apart at the cracks.
The molding on the spokes had pulled way from the center so I cut it up by the outer ring and move it back and forth until it came free enough to slide it back down toward the center ring where it's supposed to be. I only cut the molding not the metal rod inside.
I was able to get it to move enough to get the crack really close to closing back up.
you can see how far the other side needs to move to line up.
continued cutting the molding on each spoke and working it down the metal rods until it lined back up with the center ring again.
figured I would use J-B weld to glue it back together so I mixed some up and put a good amount on each piece and put them back together.
Continued mixing up more and filled the cuts I made on the spokes.
Put an extra layer inside the center...
once it stared to harden but was still soft enough to cut with a razor I cut away the excess on the outside of the steering wheel to reduce all the sanding in the tight areas.
I'll give it time to fully cure and then go back and sand and fill any spots that need touching up. Then primer and paint...
Thanks for sharing, excellent 👌. Please let us know about the final look and feel!

Really looks better just with the JB Weld so far!
Looks like it might actually work!
I’ve restored wheels before using JB Weld, but nothing like that.
Looks good I have seen people use body filler before but not jb weld. jb weld seems like it will hold better over time. Have you done it before how does it hold up?
Sanded and sanded all the body filler down until I couldn't feel and lines or cracks anymore
Then sprayed it with the flexible mat black vinyl/plastic paint. Yeah I decided to go with boring black on this one as I know I need a black steering wheel in my 1969 F100. So this will be ready to go once I have the truck back from the mechanic.
Once that was dry I sprayed it with a hi gloss clear.
