I have a 2022 F350 diesel. Having strange problems with brake controller. Had it down for reprogramming twice. 1st time the program wasn't available 2nd time Ford said I didn't need it on my truck build of August and it was take off the ford pass app. by ford. I have a fifth wheel rv with electric over hydraulic brakes. Never had any issues with my 2019 F350. The problem I am having is if you manually fire the brakes it says trailer disconnected but the brakes are applying and the lights on the trailer are on also says trailer disconnected randomly while driving yet brakes and lights continue to work.. Also the other day while towing I could not adjust the gain on the trailer nothing would show on the display. About 3/4 of the way home the gain display started showing again. Taking it into the dealer again but you know how that goes with intermittent problems, they never act up at the dealer. Has anyone else had similar issues was thinking the controller may be bad.
Just got back from a trip this past weekend, and had no trailer brakes all day yesterday, but they were working this morning.
Going to call and get an appointment for the recall fix on my truck, have the letter and the notification on the app, so they better not tell me mine has been taken off the list!
I just got the letter and booked it in with the dealer. I confirmed with the dealer that were no other recalls (wiper arms), and the brake module flash is the only recall on my truck.
Was already in for it twice and dealer contacted ford and said it didn't apply to my vehicle.
My dealer said that it didn't apply to my November built '22 F450 as well, but did the software update anyway. My trailer brakes have worked fine ever since. I had the same experience as you in how mine worked - or didn't work - before that.
My 2020 F150 had this problem with both my car trailers, now my 2022 F250 Lariat is the same. Carried it in yesterday for the recall service and they informed me today it is completed, so we will see. Also, having a weird noise on the right rear like a grinding when truck is hot and coming to a stop. Not steady, but almost like what a warped rotor would sound like. I have checked backing plate, caliper, and pads. Has to be in emergency brake assembly, but not sure? Odd thing is left side has began to squeak. So when I talked to Ford service tech this morning, he said they disassembled brake system and cant find anything obvious, and they stated politely they cant ride around until the problem starts. Obviously, I agree with that, but he wouldnt even take it out for longer than 5 minutes or so, because I know for months now it will start in probably 15 minutes of drive time. So, going down to drive it around and take it back for tech to ride in when it starts, lol!
Mine gives a trailer disconnected intermittently or if I use the manual brake switch. Also while pushing + or -on gain controller it would not show. Then 1/2 later in trip it showed.
For those that have had an issue, was there a warning displayed or could you just feel the lack of trailer brakes?
Mine showed no warnings, just no trailer brakes, either by the pedal or the dash switch.
Still showed when I adjusted the gain, but made no difference in braking.
So, I have my appointment for 09:30 tomorrow.
Asked the service writer about also doing the wiper recall, no parts available yet.
Then I asked him if they would change the tire size for me since the tires I added are an oem size, but he told me they don't have any way to make that change.
I thought they could make changes like that since the change is to a factory optional size???
So, got the recall done.
What I have found, and will test further once I get out on the road with a big trailer, is that the exhaust brake seems to be working more aggressively now.
So, guess maybe part of the computer upload has some changes for the EB as well as fixing the trailer brake controller.
As I said, I will be looking forward to seeing how it works when towing on my next trip.
