RABS

96 f350 5.8 dually dump truck. Redoing my rear brake lines and the only way to get the flare nut out of the RABS was to take the RABS fitting out. After clamping the fittings in my vice I was able to get the two apart. Now I can’t get the fitting back in the RABS. The threads are fine but won’t catch. It seems to be the rubber gasket stopping it. Has anyone ever had this issue? Will loosening the Allen head bolts on the end of the unit release the gasket enough to get it back in?

If it was mine, I would delete the RABS. I don't like it. I have disabled every one I have ever had.

Can that be accomplished by simply removing the unit? Will it throw any codes? Brake and/or ABS light on the dash?

On mine, I just pull the fuse and also the ABS bulb in the dash. On yours sounds like you should remove the unit and then pull the fuse and the bulb.

I would just replace the unit @Alcar93. Only 20 bucks and those sensors fail eventually, mine is currently not working I have an ABS light.

Jas88 was suggesting to completely remove the RABS hydraulic module. Several folks on this forum do not like the RABS system on these trucks. I have had no issues with it so I personally have replaced that module before to restore proper operation. Trust me, it is not a $20 sensor.

Rockauto has a rebuilt module for ~$138 USD: 1996 F350 RABS Hydraulic Unit

On my 94 simply unplugging the ABS module behind the glove box disables it and all lights etc associated with it. As a bonus it often corrects speedo needle jitters since it shares the same signal from the VSS. I've done this on 2 trucks and will do it again on the next one that has a problem related to it.

Does this affect cruise control?

It doesn't. Cruise still works.Make sure you get the recall done or buy the improved switch on the master cylinder to eliminate the fire hazard.

I unplugged mine for a little while and it seems like it made it idle a little higher and took a little longer for the rpms to come back down when coasting in neutral (5 speed). Plugged it back in and it was better. Truck still idles higher than I’d like though

I've noticed nothing like that on 3 trucks.

Good to know, thanks. New switch was installed on the MC a couple weeks ago.
