Hi guys. Yesterday I was having a conversation with a guy who owns a 2020 SD. Since this is my first super duty (2019 6.7 Platinum) I was asking him about the pedal parking brake.
I used to own a 2018 F150 equipped with the electronic parking brake. There each time I would engage the parking brake the vehicle would be planted to the ground. As opposed to that now in my 2019 SD when I press the parking brake pedal the truck shows sort of a slack before planting itself to the ground. He told me that’s normal. But he went ahead saying something like “the pedal parking brake is sort of emergency thing should you need it. Because when putting the shifter in PARK the super duty engages the parking brake as well.”
Is that really so?

SuperDuty trucks do not do this.
However, some vehicles do have an electronic parking brake that does set when you shift to park. My wife's Lexus has that option although we don't use it.

Whoever 'He' is in that equation, don't consult them on any automotive matters or let them 'help' you with any of your maintenance or repairs. I get very little movement once I set the parking brake. I use it when hitching up to a trailer on a slope so it keeps the ball right where I want it rather than roll slightly when I put it in park.
While we're on the subject....when you guys press the parking brake does it get to a point where it makes a popping sound, maybe 1/3 way down?
No, but last year my drivers side rear was hanging up so I pulled the rotor and serviced the ebrake components. It was pretty bound from corrosion and being dry, I brushed/cleaned/lubed/ exercised everything and was noticeable in the ebrake pedal. Worth doing it every once in awhile.

Mine has done this since brand new. Maybe I should bring it up next time I have to go in to the dealer.

Electronic parking brakes are built into the caliper itself. A screw, powered by a motor, clamps down on the brake pads.
Parking brakes like on the SD, use small shoes that press outward on the inside "hat" of the rear rotor...just like a drum brake. Operated with a lever (the pedal) and cables, they don't clamp as well, and their design essentially allows for some movement if not super tight.
