just redid my battery setup(batts/cables) on my 96 7.3 and concerned that my new ones will die, today they read below 12v (kinda slow crank) and i ran a multimeter on the alt with red attached to B post and ground on the alt body, shows it pumping out 12.35v i think this is a motorcraft 140 amp alt i'll have to check tomorrow, but is that low for this alt/truck like its dying? or maybe the relay-solenoid on the fender possibly not hooked up correctly?
thanks for the reply and the one from my other thread that forgot to reply, well im going to double check with a shops multimeter to be sure and go from there i suppose, still not sure if the fender relay wires are on right but, all expect starter-signal wire are on the one peg so i assume its all correct if everything works, the alt hooks up to the relay-solenoid and not the battery right?
so anyway retested with someone giving it about 2500 rpm and alt jumped up to 14v jus barely I wonder if that just means the volt regulator is bad in it
Could be, regulator is the part that usually goes bad. Easier to find and swap the whole alternator though usually. Make sure they test the replacement one at the store first. I had like 2 bad ones before getting one that works right.
