Step tailgate

Is Ford having a problem manufacturing the Step tailgates on the 2022 F 250? Mine came without it and I'm being told by the dealership that Ford is having "plant closures" so they have no idea when they can make it right for me??

Any info would be appreciated.

Was it supposed to have come on your truck? Is it listed on the window sticker?

No it's not on the sticker. It was ordered when I sat down with the sales person at the dealership. But when I picked the truck up 3 months later I was told it wasn't available in production. Now I'm told I will get it, but no idea when. Is there really a production issue with these tailgates?

Everything seems to be an issue right now. I’d also say that since the order bank closure they are allocating parts to those still unfulfilled. Saying that, if it’s on your order sheet I would keep riding the dealer. There’s a good chance that when Ford picked the order up the system changed it and it went unnoticed …when mine got picked up and assigned a VIN my color changed. Thankfully I noticed it and was able to get it corrected before getting built. Or ask for credit and use that money to try and find one somewhere for sale…

It's definitely on the "commodities" list, they pulled it off the website a few months ago. I ordered it on mine, it's scheduled May 9.

I'm irritated I wasn't notified this was even an issue before the truck was delivered. That tailgate was important to me as I'm not getting any younger trying to get in and out of the back of my truck. How long should I give them?? What do I do, and when?

Maybe a dumb question but what's a commodities list? So if it's off the website will I never see it now?

"commodities" are all the options, specifically the ones that Ford (and others) are having a hard time sourcing, that are holding up or slowing production. Everything from Spray in bedliners and 5th Wheel prep, to cab lights and block heaters, are "commodities".

When I ordered my truck in January, I ordered the step. I also had the 5th wheel prep on my order. After my confirmation, I deleted the 5th wheel prep because it was on the forums as a known commodity item, in my 3 month order to delivery process I never once saw the step come up as a commodity item. My truck does have the step and was built 3/38 -3/29 and in my possession on 4/21.

The dealers don’t seem to be very good at staying on top of things… there are exceptions… but I’m the one that noticed the color change on mine and am the one that brought it to my dealers attention. Had I not, my truck would have arrived the wrong color. Unfortunately though, when ordering the customer needs to pay close attention to the order when placed, and when the order is picked up…

Also, when we did the paperwork, there was a page that both I and the dealer had to sign stating that everything I was owed was delivered and if not, those items were listed. Did you not have to sign a form like this?

If not, I would (at this point try to) get it in writing from your dealer that they will provide the correct part, at no charge to you. If it wasn’t on the window sticker then you didn’t get charged for it, so I doubt they would give you cash back… but it wouldn’t hurt to try that route either. If they absolutely cannot get the tailgate step, see if they will provide you another step that allows you to more easily climb into the bed. There are steps that mount to the side of the bumper and folds out to help get a leg up.

Good luck.

Just because it's not on Fords website doesn't mean squat. What actually matters is the published order guide. Prior to 4/1 you could order anything you wanted but there were some items that will hold up (slow) production if you didn't have patience. Of course the dealer will want you to not order constrained items so they can sell a truck faster and not have to listen to people whine about how slow it is or keep asking when is my truck being built 1000 time. Out of all of the known commodity issues, the tail gate step wasn't/hasn't been one of them. If it's not on the window sticker, it didn't get ordered and the dealer is just making an excuse as why it didn't get ordered if was asked for. All of this info is on web in one place or another and doesn't take that much time to find it.

Honestly I think the problem is man power not a lack of products needed.

I maybe wrong, but I think the step tailgate is a totally different tailgate. Unless maybe they built it with the step tailgate without the step in it.
I’d be very concerned about getting this made right. My old knees don’t like jumping in and out of the bed like they did 20 years ago.

It is undeniably both. A couple weeks ago they ran out of brake lines and halted assembly. Talk about "commodities" lmfao

Every pickup I've owned has had two big round black steps. One on each side of the bed.
