Congrats on a great fix! Good work getting all that sorted out.
Thanks for letting us know the solution in this case.

Thanks! It's was nice to have a small win! . That being said, we MIGHT have created another problem. Now his turn signals don't work (flashers work fine). Not the front or the back. The tail lights work as do the brake lights but none of the blinkers blink. We didn't touch any other wiring. We only cut the old backup light sockets out and heat shrunk the end of those connections and then ran new power and ground wires. Is it necessary for those old wires to go to something for the blinkers to work?

Not really. Just the grounds.
Without good grounds some of the lights might still work when they find an alternate ground source through the opposite filament. But that usually means the lights are very close to the same brightness, so if you see a distinct dim for running lamps and bright for brakes, the grounds are probably still good.
Your '76 has the plastic tail light housings with integrated lenses, correct? Or does your truck have the steel housings/reflectors with separate lenses?
Sorry, you said the flashers work? Ok, then try swapping the flasher units and see if the problem follows.
It might not even have been something you did and is just one of what we call a "coincidental failure" where you just happen to be on the last legs of something and it dies while you're working on other things.

worth a check.

We put a new flasher in the blinker plug and still nothing. All of the lights work, just no blinkers. Here's a few pictures of what we're working with. The original power/ground wires to the backup lights are cut and shrink wrapped. You can see them in the second pic. Anything look out of the ordinary? Thank
s!
if the brake lights and flashers work, the wiring/grounds/sockets/bulbs are fine. you need to focus on the turn signal circuit from the fuse box to the flasher to/thru the turn signal switch...

We will have to get under there tomorrow when there's some light. I'm hoping that it's not the turn signal switch as that looks like a PITA to change out. Lol.
