Can you guys help me confirm which differentials are on my truck?
It is a 2020 F350 CCSB, 4x4, 7.3 gas, NON-Tremor. Currently has 3.73 gears from factory.
I am 99.9% sure it has a Dana 60 front and a Sterling 10.5 rear.
The front has Dana stamping and numbers on the cover, but no obvious identifier. The rear has Ford cast into the housing, but no other identifiers.
The diff shop is having trouble trying to figure out what is on it without looking at it. Makes me think about using a different shop.
I would take it down to them so they could have a look, but they are 1.5 hours away.

Honestly, Visual inspection, i.e. actually LOOKING at the rear diff is the easiest way to know 100%. No you have this, and this, but not that, so you should have this one. I mechanic who does this day in and day out, would be able to look under the truck and tell you in 2 seconds. As was said by others. The Dana has a fill plug IN the cover. The Dana has 14 bolts not 12. The Dana has much larger casting where the axle tubes enter from the side.
There are probably 20 threads going back to 2017 that show pictures comparing the two. Once you know what to look for spotting the difference is easy.
Yes, I would look at another axle shop
Dana 60 axle on the front for sure.
I am pretty certain Sterling 10.5 axle on rear. I have a F350 SRW 7.3 with 3.73 and I do have the Sterling.
I have 3.73. I am pretty sure only the 4.30s get the Dana. There is no drain plug on the rear, just the fill on the side of the housing.
The front has a drain plug on the cover.
The diff shop thought the front might be a M275, never heard that before.
M275 is the Dana rear axle. The front may be called a 265 now but it has been the same axle for at least a decade so they kind of, should have known the front axle for sure. I understand the rear being in question.
Not sure if this helps,,
If I remember correctly the cover on the Dana M275 has 14 bolts. The Sterling cover has 12 bolts.
^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^ Along with a fill plug in the cover = DANA; No fill plug in cover = Sterling
Too EZ to just take a peek n see for one’s self and determine which one has.
Shop doesn’t know difference……..find a different shop.

Thanks for the help, I think philips nailed it
If they thought the FRONT axle was a M275, you need to run away from that shop. The front axle in SuperDuty's has been a Dana 60 for 2 decades now....if a differential shop doesn't know that, I wouldn't want them near my truck!
I always thought if you knew how to interpret the codes on the white door post sticker that would tell you what axles you have and a bunch of other stuff. Is that not the case?
