First Bumpside

Picked up my first Bumpside, just, brought it home yesterday. I had always been a fan of the Dentside trucks, but lately the bumpsides grew on me and the opportunity to pick up this one came up. Also I live in California, and this generation does not require smog. It's 1972 F250 Camper Special. Body is solid, no rust issues. Only has 1 small dent in the entire body and 2 small dents on the trim. Also all the trim pieces seem to be there. The bed is solid. No dents on the bed floor. I'm going to need a ton of advice since I've mostly worked on newer vehicles. Have some basic mechanic skills and basic tools. I do the maintenance on all my vehicles and basic repairs/mods.

Here are some of the issues I have found on the truck so far.
  • Truck seems to have had power steering installed but the steering wheel is pretty hard to turn. Seems like something is wrong with it.
  • When I turn on the truck I hear a suction noise coming from the gas cap. I'm thinking the old owner installed a non vented gas cap even though it should be vented.
  • When we loaded it on the trailer the truck was turning off. Like it would lose power. I'm wondering if the non venting cap has anything to do with this issue but I believe the truck has carb issues.
  • Makes a clicking sound like it has lifter issues
  • Brake light stays on if I don't lift the brake pedal.

Here's my plans for the truck short term:
  • Get engine running
  • Holley Carb
  • Fix power steering
  • Autofab 3" lift
  • Re-upholster Seat
  • Fix dash pad
  • Retro Sound Stereo
Truck has a an Auxiliary tank, I would like to remove the in cab tank and keep the auxiliary tank only. Wonder if anyone has done this, or if it's possible without too many modifications.

Anyway, here are some pictures...

I too just got my 1st bump side as well. It appears to be all original and all there. My son and I are super excited to wrench on and eventually drive it.
