Hey all. Last night driving home I heard a couple “clunks” coming from the drivers side wheel area (4 to be exact). Pulled over and didn’t see anything (it was dark) then continued home and didn’t hear it again.
This morning I see I have this hose hanging from the front of the brake and the passenger side is still connected but very rotted. Is this a return line?
Did it sound like the hub engaging and disengaging,? Usually “clunks” are associated with the drive line
no, and it didn’t fell like it was either. I know it’s hard to diagnose a sound, especially over text. But It almost sounded like someone was hitting plastic, the first thing I looked at when I pulled over was the plastic lug cover. If you were to hit that fairly hard with the back of a screw driver or something 4 times in a row. That’s what it sounded like.
i didn’t feel any vibration or pulling. It was a nice night and my window was down that’s why I heard it.
I drove another 20 miles last night and then 20 to work today and didn’t hear it again

Could have been the rest of the vacuum line fighting to hang on before it was liberated. Like banging on the fender liner?

thats a good point. I check around the truck pretty regularly and would notice something dangling like that line was. Maybe when the top gave it got wrapped up by the wheel and grabbed the fender well a few times. That makes me feel better.
The front axle uses needle bearings to support the axle shafts when 4 wheel drive is not engaged.
When mine failed, it sounded a bit more like a heavy grinding. If it comes back, you can verify that is the issue by engaging 4 wheel drive- if the noise is gone then your needle bearings are shot. I replaced mine with Timken B2110. There are guides available online to assist.
