Gas gauge is jumping from e to full and back!

The sending unit in the tank gets corroded and doesn't respond like it should. My 87 shows full all the time when it gets down to 5 gallons it shoots to "E" the other tank does the same except it bounces around a bit. Pretty common for this to happen
