Looking for a 7.3 IDI Engine Re-builder

94 F350 4X4 7.3IDI Turbo Diesel, Banks Sidewinder, Toyo 35” on Hulk Rims, 4.56 gear ratio, rear disc brake conversion.

Hey Fellas,
I’m in L.A County and I’m looking for a good engine rebuilder.. My truck engine has 300,000 miles.. It runs well but with no load but heats up drastically when towing my 26’ trailer which weighs close to 7,000lb. My path out of here is the I-5 Tejón Pass (The Grapevine) which is a 6% grade. The gauge hits at least 3/4 to 7/8 normal range. I have a new complete cooling system..Radiator, water pump, thermostat, new hoses. I use Rotella T4 SEA 15-40 motor oil and added a bigger oil and trans pan to hold more oil for cooling. Once were at 3/4 up the grade the truck top speed is 35 to 40 miles until grade is less. Once leveled off temp goes down pretty quick. Sorry if too much info…

I am thinking rebuilt motor will have less wasted heat and go a bit faster or at last gauge would read lower in temperature. There is some but not too much black smoke when pushing up the hill.. Without a load it runs magnificent..
opinions anyone?

And where to find a good engine re-builder?

Depends how much loot you wan to throw at it.
https://idiperformance.com/ If you want it done right give Justin a call.

there is also https://classicdieseldesigns.com/ He is located in Texas.

They will build what ever level you want.

That is a nice looking tuck.

Yeah, the Grape Vine is a long up hill pull, been over a few times. In the summer it will make the best of them sweat.
Have you checked your timing? that can make a difference having it right on.

i finally blew a piston last year thxgvng weekend going to mojave, motor was cool and egts were under 1200 but it turned out who the PO had rebuild her did a garbage job

my rig is at redmans in oakhurst ca and justin from idiperformance told me to go there justin was in wa and is now in wy

i know Justin is still moving so I don’t think he’s taking any orders currently and CDD has been bowed up.

Charmalu,
I have not.. that is something I need to do for sure..Is this a remove engine block and shipping it out their or drive and leave it to remove, rebuild and pick it up?

I just got it back from the upgrades and engine compression check.. it barely past the 50% mark.. I believe these engines new are around 195 to 440psi for engine compression…My 7.3IDI is approx at 300psi as of last month..

Going up that hill trying to get out of the way of a tractor trailer I came close to redlining my motor… I even heard the injectors cracking.. I lead off the pedal a bit and she pulled through… won’t do that again.. lol….

Greatly appreciate it.. will make that call tomorrow to see what they can do or at least know their back log and lead time..

These engines are so easy to work on, you could do rebuild it yourself. I'm in LA if you ever need a hand.
