Water Pump
I found a water pump that fits a 1987 - 302 - Bronco/F150/Econoline . Why will this not fit a 1971 302 ? Does a 1971 f100 water pump have a backing plate ? I am hoping I can use my 1971 backing plate and 1971 gasket to use the 1987 waterpump ??? 
Or is the spacing/clearence from the radiator wrong ? Any way why will the 1987 not fit ?????????

Yes , I am finding that out .......thank-you............I did not realize serpintine started that soon.87...........I ask because I am constantly finding good parts at a bargain & try to find out if they will work on my truck.............thank-you for the help, I did need a quick answer & u DELIVERED
