I'm replacing all the rotted tranny lines & dipstick tube on my 03 F250. When I was trying to unbolt the tube today the bolt snapped (the one on the back of the head) so I cut the pipe cutter out & chopped the tube in two spots in order to remove it.
It came out alright & to my dismay it appears that the tube is a two piece design for some reason. Who does that? Anyways it look like my cutting adventure ate that tube too, the neck was rotted solid in there.
Does anyone know if there's a Ford part number (or dorman, etc cheaper the better) for the lower tube which goes into the tranny? I can't even find a name for it, only some "diesel shops" that sell a $90 extension. I didn't pay that much for every tube & hose. Heck, I wouldn't pay that much for the truck.
I was digging around for an o-ring thinking there was only one tube, but only found what looked like white caulk. Are you just supposed to RTV that base or is there some sort of grommet?
I REALLY hope I can find a cheap tube, I would make one from conduit pipe but no clue how I would flare it to fit the upper. Mig is busted so that's a no go.
Since that bolt broke & there's no way of getting at the nub without a infant midget or taking the top end of looks like the tube will be ziptied to something & that's gonna be a leaker if it's not a blind hole. New upper with what looks to be the lower. Same. The 11mm nut from hell. THREE HOURS OF TURNING THAT only to have it snap. Argh.
