78 F100 does not want to go fast. She bucks and sputters when I push hard on the accelerator. Accelerator is very sensitive and vibration shakes the whole truck when attempting to go faster than 30mph
Hello, You will want to rule a few things out by completing a standard tune up if you dont know they are good parts - such as checking compression to make sure further work is justified, new plugs, plug wires, rotor, distributor cap if needed, check vaccuum pressure is more than 10 to 15 psi, check timing with a timing light, check the vaccuum advance is working, check the voltage at the coil (not always 12 volts after startup, have to check for your truck), put a new fuel filter on, make sure it's got new gas in it, check with your gas cap off and it doesn't effect, check your ignition module (I put a new one on if you don't know the history), overhaul the carb if you don't know it's history, check the fuel supply lines aren't looking in poor condition, make sure the battery is charging and is a good, put a new coil on if you don't know the history, and I'm sure more than that will come to mind as you go.
It sounds like alot but it's probably a day- or two if you don't know much about it but are handy.
After you do that basic stuff, then if it's not fixed and give more details (year, mileage, engine, any modifications, etc) I'm sure the people here can help.
This is most often a symptom of fuel starvation, second maybe timing. Does it get better as the truck warms up? I'd be looking at dirt in the carb first, then issues with the fuel pump/filter/lines.
Good to hear you found and fixed the problem.
In the future please post the year model and motor size as we can then pin point a little better.
73 could have points, 75 could be electronic two different ways to start checking stuff.
