Vibration Problem - Need Help ASAP!!!
My 79 F100, 302, 3spd manual tran, has a driveline vibration. I checked and then changed all three universals, problem still exists. Vibration does not occur every time I drive the truck. It's an on and off problem. I tried this to try and diagnose the problem: When going down a long steep hill so I can keep the speed up (vibration occurs at about 45 to 55 mph), I pushed the clutch in - still had vibration problem; with clutch pushed in, I slipped it out of gear - vibration goes away. What do you think? I should add the following info: engine and clutch probably have about 120,000 miles on them, the transmission very likely has over 400,000 miles on it. Maby the `tail shaft bearing on the trans?

John, if it was the tailshaft bearing wouldn't it do it whether or not it was it gear as long as the truck is moving the tailshaft should be moving. I would be more suspicious of what ever gear it was in when the vibration occured maybe bearings or bushings on that gear??? John
