Who's using Amsoil in their truck? Not starting an oil debate just looking for some response on Amsoil with the rotella no existing just looking for a good alternative
Found Rotella the other day and bought 5 gal, just in case it was a fluke. I got it at Tractor Supply Co, where I usually get it. They had been out for a while and I couldn't find it anywhere else. Fortunately, I had enough on the shelf at home to get me through my last change, but am glad to have enough for another change if it's still hard to find.
I'm convinced there are some oil gnomes, employed by oil manufacturers, that start oil threads. Likewise, there are other <insert here> gnomes pitching audio, twidgets and other "must have" products that frequent forums.
Hey, I used a 90 degree flubigator and it boosted my MPG's by 6% and now my wife/girlfriend really loves me because it also restored my sex life. /s

Got a link? LOL!
(To the flubigator, not the wife/girlfriend)
I used to be a preferred customer with AMSOil. I let that lapse when I bought my F-350. If an oil isn't on Ford's approved list, I won't use it. Blackstone Labs did a study a couple years back on which oil to use. Their conclusion - I'm paraphrasing here - was to use the oil you wanted to that met the specs.
All I was looking at is preferd price is about 37 bucks a gallon and just delvac is 33 at autozone so all things being equal just thought that if Amsoil is better stuff might be worth the few extra bucks not trying to start an oil war

I have used Amsoil in all of my vehicles. My current F-250 I have not because the Rotella and Valvoline are so inexpensive. I'm shooting for 7500 mile oil changes (or the oil monitor, whichever comes first) and will send my oil in for analysis to make sure I'm not over using the oil
Amsoil guarantees their product meets the spec which is why they recommend it. Amsoil is expensive so if you are not chasing the extended drain intervals you won't get the financial benefit. The mid-level Amsoil 5w40 seems to be in line with the specifications of the Valvoline Premium Blue. If the Valvoline goes up in price too much more or becomes difficult to find I will switch to Amsoil and if I get an oil related failure I will be calling them out on their guarantee.

BINGO . Use oils that meet the MFG Spec's. It that simple.
I run Amsoil in my gas and diesel trucks.
I like the extended intervals. In my 6 cyl Tacoma, I had a Blackstone test ran recently at a 10k mile interval oil change and everything came back well within specification and it said that I could have ran even longer on it. I'm sure there are plenty of other oils out there that could have produced similar results so take it for what its worth. I do believe that with most vehicles, the brand of oil doesn't make a difference.
I'm pretty hard on my trucks and I tow max weight with my Diesel trucks so I don't mind spending a little extra on oil to help me sleep at night.
I started running Amsoil back when my 2013 6.7 powerstroke had a typewriter tick. It drove me nuts listening to it. After trying several different brand oils, Amsoil was the only one that made the tick go away and it never ticked again. So I stuck with it and have been happy with it.
Cost isn't all that much higher than other synthetic oils. Plus, its delivered to my door within about 2-3 days after ordering with free shipping.

The Amsoil Heavy Duty is way more comparable to Delvac or Rotella.
You are looking at Signature Max Duty I am sure.
I think the Heavy Duty is about 10 bucks a gallon cheaper than the Signature and is a much more comparable oil to the Delvac or Rotella in both price and composition.
I believe most of the Rotella line is Group 3 base stocks with enough synthetic additive to, by law, be called "full synthetic". Same with Delvac. I have heard the 0w40's use a decent amount of Group 4 base stocks, but i dont think we are talking about 0w40 in this conversation.
The Amsoil Signature is full group 4 base stock, hence its price. The Heavy Duty I believe is a blend of Group 3 and a ton of synthetic additives. Thats typical for MOST of Amsoil's oils. The Signature is a full Group 4 and the lower lines are generally Group 3 base stocks with a lot of syn additive.

Do you think it not being on fords list is a big deal? I'm not interested in running past say 7k miles do you think Amsoil is that much better than say rotella or Valvoline?

Amsoil will NEVER pay to be on anybodies lists... and they will tell you this. Its just extortion. Shell, Mobil, etc... can afford to pay for this "privilege" as they are multi billion dollars companies, but Amsoil is not. I dont think Redline, Eneos, Motul, etc... are on anybodies lists either, but they are excellent oils as well, some even better than Amsoil IMO.
The specs for what GM, Ford, etc... require in their oils are all out there so its easy for everybody to comply with them. I dont think their standards are any more strict than whatever the latest API standards are.
With that said, if you dont want to run longer OCI's, I wouldnt spend the money on the Signature. Get the Heavy Duty for ~the same cost as Rotella or Delvac and soldier on.
If you want to run longer OCI's and do a little oil sample analysis(to support those longer OCI's) then run the Signature series.
Just started running it in my 86 because it was cheaper than Mobil 5w40 turbo diesel.
I think you will be happy running it.
my oil psi actually increased, a bit surprising since they are the same weights.
