Had a buzzard fly into my drivers mirror today . I am trying to decide if I should make an insurance claim . I have a $250 deductible . There are some small scratches on the black plastic and 2 small hairline cracks in the center light . The puddle light popped out but still works . The bottom of the housing is also popped out of position . The puddle light won't stay in but it might if I snap the bottom back into place . The mirror still extends and retracts fine . It also folds fine and the mirror is still adjustable with the toggle inside . I need to look closer at why the puddle light won't stay in place .
My mirror got hit by another pickups mirror and had similar damage.
Using a straight and 90 degree pick I was able to get the cover back on.
It took a little while but it did go back in. Those mirrors are expensive so try to fix it yourself.
As to the scratches Armor All made it look much better and your puddle light maybe a little crazy glue.
Good luck!

thanks for the response . On the bottom where it popped apart should I just spread it a bit and see if it will line up and go back together ?
I thought there would be more damage from a buzzard strike. Consider yourself lucky. I had a pheasant take my driver side mirror completely off the truck!
Is there something keeping it from just popping back together? I've had that back plastic shell pulled apart a couple times to replace the signal light. After removing the two mirrors there are 5 screws that come out. Other than that it is just plastic tabs that hold it on.
On the puddle light there should be a tab accessible from the outside that holds it in. They come out and go in easy, you could pull the passenger puddle light for comparison.

I guess I was lucky ! I was doing about 70mph and I think it mainly hit the middle to outer edge .

I think I will try to see if I can pop it back together . Good idea about looking at the other puddle light . I will have to look to see if the tab broke off . Thanks .
I was able to spread the housing and get it to snap back together . I will try to remove the small surface scuffs/scratches with some Armorall later . The puddle light did get the little part that latches in broken off but I ordered a new one online for around $71 including shipping . So I guess I will skip the insurance claim for now .
Id say the mirror won.
Hopefully it will snap back together. Maybe a trip to a local body shop could help..Ford would probably say you need a new mirror.

Yeah but you just have to be patient and work it slowly and sometimes wish you had another hand. If you use a pick be careful of stabbing your hands , ask me how I know.
