Can I swap pinion flanges from 2 2002 F350 7.3 with 3.73 gears one is a cclb. One is a regular cab there different companion yolks Long story short my crew cab chewed the bearings in the rear end and Ford wants $850 for the parts so I want to swap the rear ends but the only difference I see is the way the differential hooks to drive shaft. Can I just pull pinion nut and flange and swap them with new crush sleeve and setting preload of course.? Please help
Yes it will fit, no need to preload but if you know how do it, a good 1/2 air impact with good air pressure is adequate, along with marking the nut and pinion before removal so it can end up in the same place.
I appreciate it and you're sure I don't have to do anything special
Nothing special I have replaced a few pinion seals using this technique no problem.
Usually the impact will get the nut right at the marks or close to the marks, you can do the rest by hand. Just don't over tighten it because that where the crush sleeve will get effed up.
[ QUOTE=udsuth78;20340822]What's different if you don't mind, and what's the donor from?[/QUOTE]
